Urban Indian Health Commission

January 1st, 2007 · No Comments

In 2006, the Urban Indian Health Commission was convened with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Disparities Project.  The Commission is a two year project, comprised of 11 members who are leaders in public health, medical, educational, and Indian affairs communities.  The goal of the Urban Indian Health Commission is to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities in the areas of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and depression.  The Commission aims to provide outreach and education on urban American Indian and Alaska Native health issues that will reach multiple audiences, including policy makers, private funders, researchers, academics, and the general public.  A series of papers on diabetes, depression and cardiovascular disease will be produced in November 2007.
